About The Artist

Born in 1967 in Kiryat Tivon, Israel, Irit Blumenthal studied architecture at Betzalel Academy of Design in Jerusalem and graphic design at Parsons School of Design in New York.

During the 1990s she studied art informally under different teachers at The School of Visual Arts in New York and also at schools in Israel. After spending 7 years in New York she now splits her time between Tel-Aviv and NYC.

Her paintings vary between the abstract and expressionist abstract.
Inspired by architectecture and design, her work consistently uses visually powerful imagery to describe personal experiences.

She has had her artwork shown in three New York exhibitions.
She believes that "painting is among the most effective ways to alter reality, thoughts or feelings, see them better, or invent new ones; that painting gives permission, it doesn't ask for it, nor explores consciousness, it changes it."
